Using choices can help manage power struggles, support independence, improve confidence, and build self-esteem. By offering 2 acceptable choices, toddlers can feel "in control" even when they aren't.

In your next toddler visit, you can model this for parents by allowing patients to choose! Do they want to sit on a lap or the table? Do they want to start the exam with the eyes or ears? Would they like a rainbow or a unicorn bandaid after their shot?
