The Importance of Family Meals

November 26, 2025

As the holidays approach us, try reminding families about the science around shared meals. Beyond the broccoli, research shows that eating together as a family - and engaging in conversation and connection - at least 4 times per week can make a significant impact on long term child health.

Family meals:

  • Encourage healthier eating habits and reduce obesity
  • Support improved academic performance
  • Increase self-esteem for children
  • Foster strong relationships

Don't have time to say it? A reminder that the Sparks series can be used to deliver anticipatory guidance and extend what you say, or miss, in a visit. Try sharing this clip with families on shared meals, or the entire series here.
