In the wake of the recent Surgeon General Advisory, all of us have parental stress on our minds. As providers, you can encourage parents to take care of themselves, not only because they matter, but for the benefit of their children.
- Remind parents that everyone needs help and self care. Hearing that from you can make a difference.
- Help parents to think of ways to reduce their stress, like activities they love, free meditation apps, accepting help from family or friends, and connecting with other parents.
- Emphasize quality over quantity. Remind parents that they don't need to do everything all the time, but that quality interactions matter most. Encourage them to take the time to make themselves whole so they can more easily enjoy time with their children.
