Preparing for Accidents

When parents start potty training, they may not have thought too much about the frustration of accidents. Not all parents are prepared, but accidents are a normal part of potty training. Toddlers are still developing bodily control and may struggle with recognizing urges or communicating their needs. To help reduce caregiver frustration, and the risk of harsh punishment, try to these tips with parents and remember that patience is key.

1) Avoid punishment, focus on encouragement.

2) Create a consistent routine, including frequent potty breaks.

3) Use positive reinforcement for successful potty use.
