Learning Language through Back and Forth Interactions

April 10, 2024

Back and forth conversations, like a game of catch, are how babies learn language best.

Here are 3 tips for parents in the early months:

  1. Listen and acknowledge any sounds or bids for attention that their baby makes.
  2. Respond to these sounds by either repeating the same sound, or pretending that they understood what they were saying and building on it.
  3. Fill their baby’s day with words by narrating what they are doing all day long.
