Co-Viewing

May 22, 2024

For young children, it’s important to talk to families about the importance of co-viewing. Here’s why:

Watching together (at ANY age) allows caregivers to make screen time interactive - by asking questions, connecting images and storylines to real life, and helping children to interpret situations. This can build connection, aid attention, and help to ensure that children are engaging with content in a healthy way.

For some families, this may mean:

  1. Having shows on a TV in a public place, instead of giving a child a phone or ipad
  2. Making sure the volume is up and everyone can hear the show (even while they may be in another room or doing something else)
  3. Interrupting shows with pauses and questions
