The 4 and 5 year well-child visits can be a great opportunity to promote early numeracy, a key indicator in supporting academic knowledge as children grow.
At your next visit, try asking:
"How many cups of milk do you drink?" or "How many times a day do you brush your teeth?" These reinforce counting and number naming.
"Do you drink a lot of juice, a little juice, or no juice?" This helps in making size comparisons, like less, more, bigger, and smaller.
"What vegetables do you eat? Do you like any green vegetables?" These questions promote categorizing and sorting.
